Unless we learn to live in the moment, and to accept it as it is, we may never function well or feel fully alive. Contentment releases us from restless desires, which can drive us blindly forward and prevent us from becoming open to the needs and gifts of others.

Yayasan Nanyang Press with the greatest support from BaoBei Reading Wonderland, continues to uphold the spirit of the previous year’s event by once again organising “The Gratitude & Contentment Charity Luncheon for Elderly and Orphans” on 1 September 2013, to be held at the SHOGUN Japanese Buffet Restaurant. Our media partners will be Nanyang Siang Pau, China Press, Life TV, Feminine and Pelajar Bulanan.

Unlike previous years, this year’s luncheon will take the form of a buffet. Yayasan Nanyang Press will invite 110 orphans from different orphanages, 110 living in poverty or from a nursing home for the elderly, and 220 from the generous public. The concept for this year is the same as last year’s – when a person purchases a charity ticket, he or she will be encouraged to sponsor another ticket for an orphan or elderly. Similarly, buying two tickets means a person will be sponsoring another two tickets to the orphans or elderly. One may choose to sponsor tickets for either the orphans or the elderly. Each ticket costs RM70 and there are 10 tickets per book.

The SHOGUN Japanese Buffet Restaurant will be sponsoring 500 goodies bags and a three-layered cake. The orphans and elderly will be siting together with their donors. This creates an opportunity for them to know each other, to better understand what they really need and learn from each other, which will make the luncheon a more meaningful event. Each guest will have to bring a gift along with them, as the donors, orphans and elderly will have a gift exchange session.

“Contentment” and “Gratitude” are the most important messages we hope to convey through this event. People from all walks of life, both fortunate or unfortunate, can get together to know and learn from each other. For example, when fortunate children meet the orphans, they will learn to cherish their time spent with their parents; whereas orphans will have the opportunity to know a new family or friend and experience the feeling of being loved. The elderly will be delighted by the warmth and concern shown by the younger generation. Videos of disabled people and natural disasters will be screened during the luncheon so that all guests will understand that there will always be someone having a better life than them; likewise, there will always be someone experiencing greater suffering.

In addition, if the public would like to continue to help them, such as by donating towards their future living expenses or tuition fees, they can also contact the person responsible for the individual’s home or orphanage for details directly. Yayasan Nanyang Press sincerely hopes that through this luncheon, the message of warmth and appreciation can be conveyed to every attendee.

不知足者，往往会忽视自己身边所有拥有的，放大心中的悲情，自然就感觉不到幸福；知足者，日子虽苦，但在苦日 子当中也有甜之味，幸福也伴随在身旁，这就是老话所说的「知足常乐」。我们要学会知足，并心存感恩，这样幸福就会伴随在我们左右。

南洋报业基金秉持着过去的精神，今年于2013年9月1日 在SHOGUN日 式自助餐厅续办《孤儿老人知足感恩午宴》， 让幸福的人与不幸福的人共聚在一堂，以知足感恩的心渡过美好的一天。本次媒体合作伙伴为南洋商报，中国报，LifeTV和 少年月刊，同时南洋报业基金也将邀请宝贝阅读乐园为合作伙伴。今年有别于往年午宴的方式，今年将 采取自助餐的形式进行。

南洋报业基金将邀请110位 来自不同单位的孤儿院孤儿，110位生 活贫苦或来自老人院的老人，和220位 的社会人士共聚。今年和去年的概念相同，让大众每买一张票就需要再赞助一张票给孤儿/老 人，买两张票就需要另购两张赞助票，以此类推。此次《孤儿老人知足感恩午宴》一本午餐捐固本为10张， 共RM700，单张餐捐为RM70。

当天午宴，大众和他们所赞助的孤儿老人可以坐在一起，彼此认识，彼此交流，这样的捐助会比一般来得更有意义。 因为感恩，所以团聚；因为团聚，所以更能了解对方的喜怒哀乐，更能了解他们真正需要的是什么。除此之外，如果大众想要继续帮助他们，捐助 他们将来的生活费或学费的话，也可以联络该老人院或孤儿院的负责人了解详情。 每位出席者都必须带随一份礼物。赞助者将与老人孤儿们交换礼物。

《孤儿老人知足感恩午宴》最主要想要传达感恩的讯息，让不幸和幸福的人聚在一起彼此认识，彼此学习，例如：幸 福的小孩认识了孤儿，就会懂得珍惜当下感恩父母；孤儿认识了幸福的家庭，就可以感受亲人的温暖；幸福的社会人士遇见这些孤儿老人，就能为 他们贡献服务；当孤儿老人遇见这些赞助者，也懂得凭自己那渺小的力量写感谢卡，对他们表示感激。换句话说，每个人都拥有贡献和服务的能 力，即使那份心意再微小，都可以让周围的人开心。

南洋报业基金衷心的希望透过这场午宴，让这份温暖传达给每一位出席者。让孤儿与老人可以感受社会的关怀，让他 们在心灵上也能得到一些安慰，同时也让社会人士回到生活当中继续传达知足与感恩的心态给身边的人。只有懂得知足的人才会感到幸福；只有懂 得感恩，才能见苦只福。
