Name: Yap 叶油升
Age: 13
Condition: Leukaemia
Yap is a 13-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with the high risk type of leukaemia when he was only 10 years old. Yap had since then received medical treatments in a hospital. Initially, those medical treatments had stabilized his condition and Yap did not need to rely on medicines for more than half a year. Unfortunately, after more than 2 years, Yap suffers relapse and he has to undergo the necessary treatments again or bone marrow transplant. It is surprised to hear that Yap has decided to forgo the treatments due to the fear of chemotherapy treatments and sensitivity to drugs. The only hope he has is to wait for suitable bone marrow to save his life but this seems to be of little chance. Thus, at the meantime, Yap has to rely on other alternative such as Chinese herbal and medicine to treat his leukaemia.
The parents of Yap gave Yap to make a choice whether to be treated in the hospital. They claimed that Yap is mature enough to decide his life and they knew that Yap is afraid of those medical treatments he had undergone previously. Yap’s mother, who had seen his son suffered ill effects from chemotherapy treatments, does not wish to force him to be treated in the hospital; she wants him to live happily. On the other hand, Yap’s mother has come out with her own recipe to treat Yap, largely relying on Chinese herbals.
During the interview with Yap, Yap mentioned that he wishes to become an oncologist to save more cancer sufferers. He too wishes to live longer to take care of his parents. Yayasan Nanyang Press, hereby, urges any supporting readers to give Yap a helping hand and assist him to grow healthy to achieve his dream in life.
