Cheong Hui Kee, a girl at the age of three, has been diagnosed with leukaemia and is currently being treated in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Every month, Cheong has to undergo a numbers of chemotherapy and this will last for at least 2 years. The parents of Cheong are anxious for their beloved daughter and are struggling to bring Cheong for her medical treatments in Kuala Lumpur. Cheong’s parents have to travel between Seremban and Kuala Lumpur constantly and this has worn them out.

NewscutDuring the interview with Nanyang reporters, Cheong’s father exclaimed that it was rather an uphill struggle to support the family as well as Cheong’s medical expenses. He merely earns a low income and his performance in work is greatly affected by the regular visits to Hospital Kuala Lumpur where Cheong receives her treatment. Cheong’s father has to travel constantly between Seremban and Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and this has resulted in him neglecting his business. Cheong’s medical expenses have cost up to RM 1500 per month and this does not include other expenses such as transportation fees, hospitalization fees, expenses during hospitalization and among others. As a result, Cheong’s father is having difficulty to afford Cheong’s medical expenses which amounts to at least RM 100,000 and thus, the parents hope that there are donations from the public to help them out.

Despite the hard time they have to go through, the parents of Cheong do not give up Cheong; they hopes that Cheong will recover from leukaemia soon. Cheong’s parents are sad to see their daughter reducing considerably weight and suffering from hair loss. Cheong’s father mentioned that Cheong has rather weak body compared to other children they have. Since young, Cheong was always sick and each time she would faint if she had a fever. Cheong had taken different types of antibiotics and until this year May, her pale-looking face had led to the finding of leukaemia. Fortunately, every cloud has a silver lining. Cheong’s mother is pregnant and the birth of this new baby brings hope to Cheong. The stem cells extracted from the cord blood of this new baby can help to treat Cheong’s leukaemia. Such a treatment, again, involves large amount of medical expenses.

NewscutYayasan Nanyang Press, hereby, urges all the readers to give a helping hand to Cheong so that she can continue to grow up and stay healthy. Donations are welcomed to help Cheong’s medical expenses. Supporting readers can donate by contacting Yayasan Nanyang Press.
